The Minister of Science and Technology, Professor Turner T. Isoun has stated that the Nigerian e-Government initiative is aimed at building a partnership model in accordance with the National Policy for Information Technology.

He explained that e-Government is the use of information to improve efficiency, effectiveness, transparency and accountability of governance.

The minister who made this assertion through his special Assistant, Dr. Emmanuel Denenu in a special paper delivered at the Nigerian e-Government high level capacity building seminar for Federal ministries and agencies in Abuja said implementing the programme in Nigeria "is a tool for good governance." Speaking during the occasion, the managing director of the National e-Government Strategies, Dr. Felix Babatunde said "this administration is determined to positively reverse the system of commodity driven economy of the past, to a knowledge driven economy that is now globally acceptable."

He added that "the National e-Government Strategy is in place to enhance communication and ensure access to information.

Also speaking, the Executive Vice Chairman of National e-Government Strategy, Dr. Olu Agunloye submitted that government has taken definite steps to reform the economy through programmes as the new partnership for African Development (NEPAD), the National Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy (NEEDS) and the National e-Government Strategies, stating that "all these are a thorough people empowerment agenda."

Highlighting the novel initiative of the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model adopted by the Federal Government.

Dr. Agunloye said the initiative was a tripartite joint venture comprising Federal Government, Strategic Partners on the second part and financial investors on the third part.
