Ondo State Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa has set up a Diaspora Smart City in Akure, the capital. It is tagged: ‘Green Economy Initiative’.

It was the outcome of the weekly meeting of the Executive Council (exco), held at the Governor’s Office yesterday.

Highlighting the advantages of the Diaspora Smart City, he said the project would be a tourism hub for Southwest regional development.

‘’It is a complete diversification of the economy, especially when artificial intelligence is moving ahead of crude oil as a source of revenue.’’

Commissioner for Regional Integration and Diaspora Prince Boye Ologbese, who presented the memo at the council meeting, said the project would open Akure and the airport to other major cities within Nigeria and the world in the context of global tourism.

He said foreigners would have the opportunity to own befitting edifice, holiday apartments, etc.

‘’The green economy initiative aspect of the project is to tackle climate change issue, which is affecting the world.

‘’The idea is to increase our Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), promote social economic growth through Direct Diaspora Investment Initiative and create massive employment for our youths.’’
