The Federal Government, on Monday, expressed interest in partnering with eligible Information, Communications and Technology ( ICT) experts in making Abuja’s Smart City Project, a successful initiative.

This interest was shown in Abuja, as the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA, the Federal Capital Development Agency (FCDA) and other agencies, joined Abuja’s Smart City Project promoters, ioSafe Nigeria, and Havel Corporate Concept in a road show.

The Head, ICT in FCDA, Engr. Johnson Oke said the FCT Administration was partnering with the ICT organizations in the project because there was a need to bring the nation’s capital to be at par with other Smart cities of the world.

Director of Information, NBS, Sunday Ichedi noted that the Bureau of Statistics was coming into the project as the government’s agency that has relevant statistics for development in the country.

Earlier, one of the foreign experts, Mr. Robb Moore said his firm was partnering with Nigerian agencies to work towards achieving a Smart City that can compete with other capital cities of the world.

Also, one of the experts, Dr Ahmed Badanga, the Chief Executive Officer, ioSafe Nigeria, Havel Corporate Concept, noted that Abuja, as an emerging city in the world, needs to use technology in driving the development of the city.

Badanga said, “The successful take-off and implementation of this project will set a pace for other African Countries, as the first city that will attain the full status of a “SMART CITY’ that will redefine the city as one of the best living environments for the residents of the FCT, create more jobs, investment, increase IGR, improve security, attract tourism among several other benefits”.

“The whole project is about data awareness and making Abuja a Smart City. Abuja has the infrastructure that we can key into to make it a Smart City.

“We are bringing strategic stakeholders together to unveil a road map for the project that will come in phases between 2024 and 2040”.
