The Bureau for Due Process and e-Governance led by the Director-General, Mr. Von Kemedi had in May kicked off the biometric screening of workers of the state civil service and parastatals in the state with over 200 arrest made of staff of the state civil service.
Leadership check showed that over 40% of those arrested were found culpable in the alleged duplication of names on the state payroll, unauthorised issuance of appointments, issuance of forged appointment letters and manipulation of employment rules and regulation in state parastatals.
In the breakdown highlighted in the executive summary report issued by the bureau office indicated that those arrested were involved in the cases of duplication of names on the state payroll for over 1,200 staff, and the names have been placed under investigation by the Project Management office before forwarding to the Police for necessary action.
Other cases identified during the screening exercise and investigation were the unauthorised approval of appointment of over 3,000 staff and over 1,000 others were identified to have either forged employment letters or falsified personal documents.
The government also announced that top members of the State Executive Council and civil servants in the state were under security surveillance over their alleged involvement in the fake employment racket and bloated civil service.
The surveillance of the top government officials has however resulted in continued threat to officers of the bureau in charge of the on-going staff revivification exercise in the state with pressure to stop the process.
But the authority of the bureau yesterday in what appeared to be the sudden end of the screening process on Tuesday issued a radio announcement stopping the exercise in the state.
Mr. Patterson Ogon, said the bureau stated that "The Staff biometric and verification exercise has been postponed due to the President's visit and other operational issues."
