As part of efforts to execute the e-governance project, the Plateau State government has commenced the training of 36 officials that would eventually man the respective internet connectivity mini-hub stations in the 17 local government headquarters that are linked to the central hub station situated at the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, in Jos, the state capital.

The skill transfer raining programme has the objective of building high-end human capacity to support the Turnkey Mini/Remote Hub station installations for corporate data, voice telephony and internet access.

President of Chapman Computers Nigeria Limited, Mr. Monday Okpebholo, who handled the project said the focus of this training is to build the capacity of those designated to operate the Mini/remote Hub stations towards understanding the technology and how best it can be put to use so as to achieve 100% productivity.

According to Okpebholo, the training seek to cover Systems Administration, Network Management, Productivity Solutions based on web, client-server technology (Internet) and platform intergration via transmision control protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) for Data, Voice telephony and Internet Access, System troubleshooting, Technical reporting and documentation. Stating that on completion, participants should have the skills and resource required to manage the Hub Stations and its remotes with minimal supervision.

He said the training is a Collaboration between GILAT of Isreal, Chapman Computers Nigeria Limited and the Plateau state Government, noting that Gilat of Isreal and Chapman Computers are well experience organisations in Manufacturing and training on VSAT Networks and its technology support around the world.

It would be recalled that the state government recently completed the internet conneectivity project with the aim of propelling governance online, a move that would greatly cut down cost as most of government business would now be done real-time either from the Government House to the local governments heaquarters or vice-versa, and even among the local governments themselves.

Okpebholo said each local government in Plateau State is provided with cybercafé such that those interested in Distance Learning would no longer need to go to the capital city of Jos, even as the government is targeting urban -rural migration through this project, apart from various business activities that would emerge from this laudable programme of the Jang administration.
