Former Governor Timipre Sylva of Bayelsa State yesterday said his administration saved about N7billion through the establishment of Due Process and e-Governance Bureau.

Chief Sylva, who disclosed this at a public lecture entitled “Governance as an Imperative for Sustainable Development, Peace and Security,” held at the auditorium of the Niger Delta University, Amassoma, noted with happiness that the state is now witnessing a growing culture of transparency and accountability following the inauguration of the Bayelsa State Expenditure and Income Transparency Initiative (BEITI).

The former governor, who though admitted that crime never be eradicated but reduced to a very low level that can be controlled by normal policing activities lamented the past history of Nigeria, which according to him, had been smeared by bad governance resulting in endemic poverty and numerous conflicts as being witnessed in Niger Delta.

“Transparency and accountability in Bayelsa State have been enhanced through the institution of the Due Process and e-Governance Bureau savings more than N7billion naira in less than eleven months as governor.

“We are now witnessing a growing culture of transparency and accountability in Bayelsa State. Transparency and accountability will be further deepened with the inauguration of the Bayelsa State Expenditure and Income Transparency Initiative (BEITI) which also satisfies another key ingredient of good governance.
