Nigeria has the potential of earning N60 billion annually from the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector.

The Executive Vice Chairman, National eGovernment Strategies (NeGSt), Dr Olu Agunloye said this in Minna on Monday.

A statement issued yesterday in Abuja by NeGSt, said Agunloye made the observation during a courtesy call on the Niger State Deputy Governor, Dr Shem Zagbayi on Monday in Minna.

Agunloye told the deputy governor that Nigerians had the talent, intellect and creativity to ensure that Nigeria emerged as a major player in the global lCT sector.

He said NeGSt was in Minna to create the necessary awareness on the deployment of eGovernment initiatives aimed at making the act of governance more transparent and efficient.

He said the eGovernment project was a citizen-centred initiative which would bring the act of governance closer to the people and give the citizens easy access to government information.

Agunloye urged government of Niger to show commitment to ongoing efforts to put government activities on-line in the country.

Zagbayi in his response, said the visit by NeGSt executive vice chairman was a challenge to the state as it would spur it to fast track its eGovernment initiatives.

He said the state had already demonstrated commitment at the highest level to embrace the ICT.

According to him, ICT is a powerful tool of development capable of liberating the people and consolidating the gains of democracy.

The access to information which the ICT revolution aims to bring will ensure that the level of lies in the political system is drastically.
