To actualize this, the state would be hooked to the World Wide Web (WWW), while automated information facilities are also to be installed in the three senatorial zones of the state.
The commissioner said the government had decided to acquire an information management system that would act as window o the state government, adding that the facilities would include building of libraries in their three senatorial zones.
Explaining that the meeting resolved to organise leadership training programmes for workers in the state civil service, he added that, “the Internet facilities will be used to monitor income and expenditure in such a way that in-land revenue can be monitored. It is hoped to cause increase in the internally generated revenue because operation will be based on automated payment system” he stated.
He added that the venture would entail automated payroll system, saying, “it is hoped to be a measure that will check incidents of ghost workers, it is all about e-government, it will involve laying of fibre optic cables in the state capital, and the connection of the state to WWW while the local government areas will be connected on radio.
Onyike said a consultancy firm had been contacted for the project and approval given for that, though, he said the cost could not immediately be ascertained.
The cabinet’s spokesman said Governor Egwu explained that the decision was based on the fact that the world had drifted to age of science technology, and that citizens technology, and that citizens of Ebonyi state should be led to join the information age.
“Our people should be made to join the jet age in the information super highway, we need to consolidate the gains of our free education programme, and the project gains is abundant” he said.
