Vice Chairman, Na-tional eGovernment Strategies (NeGSt), Olu Agunloye has said that acute shortage of reliable database within federal ministries and agencies was affecting the eGovernment project.

Agunloye said at the inauguration of the strategy national office complex Abuja Wednesday, that without a reliable database the project would not achieve the desired result.

He said that the proliferation of stand-alone dedicated electronic payment systems and significant cases of cyber insecurity and crimes were other major challenges confronting the project.

Agunloye said that, the challenges were being addressed with the introduction of registration to obtain standardised and inter operable data from the public sector. He expressed optimism that the introduction of eNaira as an intelligent payment tool with in -built service delivery, audit trail and ePayment gateway, would restore the confidence in eBusiness in the country.

Agunloye also said that an Internet gateway with traffic monitoring capabilities services on the eGovernment portal would scale down cyber crime and insecurity in the country.

He called on all government establishments to inject Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools and applications into their operations.

Agunloye also urged the public sector to migrate their databases onto the public service network so as to be integrated on the new e-Government platform.

He said that such integration would promote transparency, accountability and enhanced productivity and revenue.

Agunloye said that government establishments required formal directive and timeliness for the enforcement of basic ICT literacy skills among the civil servants.

Such directives according to Agunloye would eliminate the problem posed by inadequate ICT deployment in government agencies.

He said that NeGSt had developed some products which had undergone alpha and beta tests and were ready for launch.

Agunloye said that the products include: eNigeria portal, eNaira, evillage, eSchool, eAuthentication, eEducation, eImmigration, eHealth, eregistration and telemedicine among others.
