IDA Ireland is attending the 11th Annual European Shared Services and Outsourcing Week in Amsterdam from 9 – 11 May, showcasing how Ireland is at the forefront when it comes to the Shared Services space in Europe. Some of the companies with shared services centres in Ireland include: Accenture, Hertz, Starwood, Telefonica O2, Paypal, Merck, McAfee, Colgate Palmolive, SAP, Yahoo and Pfizer.

In these challenging market conditions, companies are actively exploring ways to reduce their international cost base and operate more efficiently. Ireland is a proven model with more than 100 Shared Service Centres currently in Ireland with 30% of thee operating in the high-tech sector, a level four times higher than the global average.

Ireland has always prided itself on being a leading shared services destination for global organisations, with the right mix of ingredients: track record of success, talent quality and availability, 12.5% corporate tax rate, technology attributes and a native English-speaking population.

Ireland continues to attract high-end investment with almost 1,000 multinational corporations choosing Ireland as their strategic European base and many expanding their facilities due to the profitability and success of their Irish operations

Ireland's ability to attract new foreign direct investment and keep existing operations throughout current economic fluctuations is a testament to the attractiveness of a mature shared services industry with experienced management.

Future of shared services in Ireland

The Shared Services Sector in Ireland is a key strategic component of our economy with over 100 Centres employing 35,000 people. Ireland facilitates industry collaboration to ensure Ireland continues to perform well and remains an attractive location for further investment in the Global Shared Services sector. In excess of 25% of SSCs are judged to be shared service masters compared to just 8 % of SSCs globally. SSC’s reported satisfaction in Ireland and immediate ambition to expand and improve.

Shared Services will enable Ireland to attract new business and remain an attractive location for organisations to develop their SCCs. As a gateway to the EU, Ireland has the potential to carve out a niche in knowledge intensive activities such as fraud, analytics, executive compensation and risk.
