The Press and Communications Office in the Department of Health has launched a new web area providing information on health topics of current interest.

These pages will be under the banner 'Healthupdate' and are directly accessible at www.healthupdate.gov.ie or from the homepage of the Department's website www.dohc.ie.

The pages will include information from various sources including PQs, adjournment debates, HSE briefs, speeches, press statements, etc, according to the Department.

It said Healthupdate has been developed within the Department by the ICT Unit and the Press and Communications Office without outside assistance or direct financial cost.

Two years ago, the Comptroller and Auditor General (C&AG) revealed that some €2 million had previously been spent on the development of an "E-Health portal" that never materialised.

Information on the new web area will be available in four categories:

  • Newsroom: This can include such items as press releases, press briefing, audio recordings and videos.

  • Nationwide: This category will highlight developments and health stories from around the country. This will also include topics of current interest.

  • On the record: This will provide a summary of some of the weekly health-related questions/statements in the Oireachtas.

  • Current Topics: This will contain information on issues currently in the news and may include the Department's response to press queries, the Department says.
