Belfast company BIC Systems has completed a pilot project to simulate the provision of secure online services to a sample of the farming community in Northern Ireland for the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. (DARD). The project is one of the first e-government initiatives in Northern Ireland to use the Government Gateway and represents a significant milestone in supplementing the targets set by the Government for electronic service delivery within the Modernising Government Agenda.

The Government Gateway is a centralised registration service for e-government services and is an important part of the UK government's strategy to provide online services through a single point of entry.
