The Dublin Chamber of Commerce has issued a report that places the Irish capital thirteenth out of 14 international cities that have attempted to establish themselves as world-class e-cities and calls on the national government to spend E1bn a year for the next three to five years in order to rectify the situation. The Chamber says that the government also needs to appoint a Chief Information Officer, similar to the position that exists on the boards of many corporations. The officer should have the budget and power necessary to implement the infrastructure and departmental changes that will move Dublin up in the rankings in particular an improvement to the citys broadband access, and governmental departments use of the internet for service provision.
The report states that this new office should be part of a comprehensive national e-commerce strategy.
