Councilor delegation returns from Singapore after meeting with local companies

A delegation of New Taipei City councilors returned from Singapore this week after meetings with local companies on smart city development.

The group toured several major firms, including Microsoft Singapore, Surbana Jurong Group, United Overseas Bank, and SMRT Corporation, per CNA.

Councilor Weng Chen-chou (翁震州) said the trip offered insights into how Singapore applies innovative technology to build a smart city. He said he hopes to bring those lessons back to promote New Taipei’s urban development and transformation.

Weng also pointed to Singapore’s “concert economy” as a model New Taipei could learn from to stimulate local industries and revitalize the economy. By deepening cooperation in artificial intelligence and education, he said Taiwan and Singapore can build a model of success for “small nations with great intelligence.”

Councilor Chuo Kuan-ting (卓冠廷) said that while “smart city” has become a policy slogan across Taiwan’s municipalities, implementation remains a major challenge. The visit, he said, deepened his understanding of how AI can be applied in public policy and governance.
