Making a hospital appointment and booking a train ride are the two most popular electronic government services, according to the results of a survey released by the Cabinet-level Research, Development and Evaluation Commission (RDEC) Saturday.

The survey on the public's opinion of e-government services and other related issues showed that 62 percent of respondents knew how to use the computer and 95 percent of computer users made use of the Internet.

Around 80 percent of the respondents said they were aware the government offers many different kinds of electronic services, with 67 percent of them saying they are satisfied with the speed at which information on e-government Web sites is updated.

Meanwhile, 63 percent of those surveyed said they were satisfied with e-government services, while 13 percent said they were not.

The survey also found that 44 percent of those surveyed browsed for information on the Web sites of government institutions, and that the five most used e-government services are hospital appointment scheduling (65.8 percent), train ticket booking (57.4 percent), tax services (46.3 percent), job searches (41.9 percent) and online consulting services (28.9 percent).

As for the "My e-government" system portal, nearly 33 percent of those surveyed said they were aware of the Web site, while another third said they had used it to seek information (50 percent) , check for service information or download application forms (28.9 percent) and apply for services (12.5 percent), according to the survey.

The RDEC survey was conducted on Sept. 29-30, with 1,106 randomly selected adults interviewed by telephone. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.95 percentage points.
