The idea in mind is to make things more efficient for the people in Saskatchewan, by working connections with doctors offices, especially in rural communities. Antosh says the one-stop location will allow residents to get a birth certificate and a health card in the same location, helping to cut down not only on time it takes to get the cards, but also to cut down on possible identity theft.
“I think there is some real advantages around managing identities,” said Antosh. “There have been some circumstances where because of time length between the two entities, some individuals have run the risk of identity theft. So we will be able to tighten those up and make that less likely to occur.”
eHealth will continue to have a strong working relationship with the Ministry of Health moving forward. The Treasury Board Crown Corporation has a direct accountability to the Minister of Health and that will remain in place after the transfer is complete.
Online registration for health cards is already offered by eHealth Saskatchewan and will continue to be something eHealth push forward with.
As far as the move with health registration, Ashton sees it as a natural progression to house the services in one location.
“We think it is a natural progression in housing similar services together,” said Ashton. “The health registration function and vital stats function we think align very well with our other services.”
