Daegu City announced on the 1st that it was designated and announced as the nation's first smart city specialized complex by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
Daegu City plans to foster Suseong Alpha City as a national smart city industrial hub that supports the demonstration and commercialization of innovative technologies in areas specializing in "mobility/robot" and "intelligent control/safety."
In the specialized complex, high-tech demonstration infrastructure such as high-speed communication networks, data hubs, and AI computing resources will be established, and citizen-feeling smart city services such as domestic on-device AI-based advanced administrative support, CCTV smart control, and robot guide dogs will be demonstrated.
In addition, it will actively utilize regulatory special cases and regulatory sandboxes under the Smart City Creation and Industry Promotion Act (Smart City Act) to create an environment where companies can freely demonstrate and commercialize new technologies. It will also establish a corporate growth support system that supports technology development, demonstration, commercialization, and investment attraction.
Daegu City has been building a smart city industrial ecosystem based on the empirical experience accumulated through smart city innovation growth engine projects, smart city challenge projects, and smart service solution diffusion projects. In particular, the cooperation system of ICT and SW companies, research institutes, and universities integrated in Suseong Alpha City was recognized as a strength and designated as a specialized complex.
"Specialized complexes are a good opportunity to verify and commercialize technology using data and AI infrastructure," said Kim Yong-deok, CEO of Arion, who participates in the specialized complex creation project. "We expect it to help strengthen technological competitiveness and enter the market."
With this designation, Daegu City plans to establish a key base for the smart city industrial ecosystem in connection with the regional hub AX Innovation Technology Development Project, DGIST Global Campus Construction, AI Robot Global Innovation Zone, and National Robot Test Field.
The smart city specialization complex will be a new innovation platform that leads to corporate growth and industrial competitiveness beyond technology demonstration, said Chung Eui-kwan, head of Daegu City's Future Innovation Growth Office. "We will do our best to establish Daegu as a central city leading the industrial ecosystem of smart cities in Korea."
