Experiencing Smart City Services Onsite at the Urban Integrated Information Center and Drone Integrated Control Center
Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor: Shin Sangjin) announced on September 9 that a delegation from the Federacion Nacional de Departamentos, the National Governors Association of Colombia, recently visited the city to experience technologies and operational cases applied to its smart city initiatives. The delegation consisted of a total of 17 members, including Chairman Erasmo Zuleta Bechara, six governors, and high-ranking officials.
On September 5, the delegation toured major smart city institutions in Seongnam, benchmarking the services currently in operation and exchanging views on mutual interests during a meeting with Im Jongcheol, Deputy Mayor of Seongnam City.
At the meeting, Deputy Mayor Im expressed, "I hope that visiting the sites where our city's smart city technologies have been implemented will be helpful, and I look forward to this visit serving as an opportunity to expand friendly exchanges between the Colombian government and Seongnam City."
The Colombian delegation then visited the Urban Integrated Information Center and the Drone Integrated Control Center, where they were able to observe Seongnam City's smart city services firsthand. Examples were introduced of advanced technologies harmoniously integrated into the city, including an Internet of Things (IoT)-based safety management system, artificial intelligence-powered intelligent control, and drone delivery.
Chairman Erasmo stated, "I was very impressed to see firsthand how Seongnam City has organically integrated various technologies such as artificial intelligence, drones, and bio-health into the city as a hub of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. This visit has been extremely helpful for Colombia as we work to build a government-private sector collaborative smart ecosystem similar to Pangyo."
Meanwhile, even before the Colombian delegation's visit, Seongnam City had been actively engaging in exchanges with overseas cities. In April last year, a high-level delegation from Uzbekistan toured the Urban Integrated Information Center to benchmark Seongnam City's digital administration and public service innovation. In May of the same year, a delegation from the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) in Saudi Arabia visited Seongnam City to observe advanced technology cases such as smart city applications and drone delivery.
