A Call for Renewed Commitment at the August Staff Communication Day Event
Choi Minho, Mayor of Sejong City, urged his staff to renew their commitment, stating, "Distinctive urban visions of Sejong City, such as the Garden City and Smart City, are being recognized for their outstanding brand value even overseas."
On August 4, during the monthly staff communication event, Mayor Choi remarked, "By sharing several anecdotes from my recent overseas business trip, I wanted to highlight that the international standing of the Republic of Korea has changed significantly compared to the past."
Previously, from July 24 to 31, Mayor Choi visited Germany and Croatia to receive the flag for the 2027 Chungcheong Region Summer Universiade and to pursue international cooperation in the smart city sector.
He said, "When I visited Killesberg Park and the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, Germany, I was deeply moved to see the Korean flag flying alone and to experience the heartfelt, not merely ceremonial or formal, welcome extended to the four governors and mayors of the Chungcheong region. Through these experiences, I could sense the high expectations for the Republic of Korea and the Chungcheong region." He continued, "I felt a profound sense of change, realizing that the global influence exerted by Korea in the international community is now vastly different from the past."
He particularly noted that the city of Split in Croatia also demonstrated a genuine passion and desire to gain practical benefits from Sejong City's smart city industry, rather than showing mere formal or superficial interest.
Mayor Choi emphasized, "The days when Koreans strove to learn European culture and the English language are now in the past. Instead, Europeans are now eager to learn from the aspirations of Korea, and especially Sejong. Wherever I go in the world, I can feel how remarkable Korea's status has become."
He added, "Even while on my overseas trip, I was constantly concerned that there might be major accidents at the festival due to the heat. Above all, I sincerely thank and commend the staff who ensured the safety of citizens and successfully concluded the festival."
