Transforming Government since 2001
Korea and China yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance cooperation in the development of electronic governance systems.

Korea's Vice Minister of Government Administration and Home Affairs Choi Yang-sik met with his Chinese counterpart Chen Dawei in Beijing. The two agreed to actively share information and knowledge, including exchanging public sector human resources and tapping into private sector know-how of systems development. Choi was in Vietnam and China to set up cooperation networks for e-governments in the Asia region.

Seoul has been pushing its e-governance initiative since 2002 with the goal of narrowing the information gap between cities and regional villages, and improving communications between the metropolitan administration, citizens and businesses.

There are currently 305 e-government sites online. The ministry plans to increase this number to over 800 by 2007.

Korea and China have been promoting active exchanges on the e-governance sector since last year's International IT Learning Program hosted in Seoul by the Home Affairs Ministry.
