According to Egyptian e-government officials centralising and automating processes has proven to be the critical success factor for the country's e-government programme.

"A crucial element of Egypt's e-government project is the automation and centralization of the country's federal accounting procedures, which will ensure greater efficiency and transparency in our financials," said Dr. Ashraf Abdel Wahab, Senior Advisor to the Minister of State for Administrative Development. Egypt's Ministry of Communications & IT runs its Government Resource Planning off an Oracle technology backbone, which includes Oracle's Database, Application Server, and Internet Developer Suite. More than 5000 users in the Egyptian government will have access to the GRP system.

Business intelligence capabilities will enable ministries in Egypt to create data warehouses and perform data mining functions which are key to the government accounting process. Given the critical nature of the information being shared between ministries, the Oracle Database will provide continuous data availability despite any unscheduled downtime, human errors, or planned maintenance.
