Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ayman Ashour said his ministry carried out projects worth nearly EGP 11 billion to develop the information infrastructure of government and technological universities, technical institutes, research centers, university hospitals and e-learning systems.

In press statements on Saturday 17/12/2022, Ashour added the ministry seeks to enhance the efficiency of the information infrastructure at government universities and university hospitals, as well as launching further electronic platforms that rely on distance-learning.

He went on to say that several agreements were signed with global technology companies, including an agreement with China's Huawei Technologies to build 75 academies and ten university laboratories and another agreement with Cisco technology company to set up ten university laboratories, as well as an agreement with Microsoft to upgrade the Higher Education Ministry's website, through providing the latest artificial intelligence technologies.

The minister stated that many studies on digital transformation were conducted, including a study for applying the model of smart universities and a study on interaction with the "Metaverse" and the fourth industrial revolution.

He pointed out that his ministry cooperated with the communications ministry to erect electronic labs at government universities for conducting online admission tests, as well as conducting admission tests for school students of all grades nationwide, with the aim of refining the technological and informational skills of top students.

Ashour spoke about a project to automate university hospitals, as its first phase involved the development of 79 hospitals at a total cost of EGP 2.7 billion.
