Transforming Government since 2001
Public Service and Administration Minister Richard Baloyi launched the pilot project of a new information technology system on Friday, the department said.

The pilot human resources (HR) module of the new information technology (IT) system was aimed at modernising and integrating government administration, the department of public service and administration (DPSA) spokesperson, Lebohang Mafokosi, said in a statement.

The pilot project of the Integrated Financial Management System (IFMS) would be implemented first at DPSA, she said, before being extended to the Free State education department.

"The IFMS is part of a public service-wide migration to an e-government [which] seeks to provide facilitated access to government services and to ensure that those services are citizen-focused and beneficial to business and government departments," Mafokosi said.

She said that the system would be phased in over the whole government within five years.

Benefits of the HR module included improved support for the implementation of management policies and processes, improved quality of, and access to, HR management information and greater support to monitoring and evaluation initiatives, Mafokosi said.

She said that while the department does not foresee any complications in the pilot phase, IT experts were on hand to address any that may occur.
