Under the auspices of Dr Ali bin Masoud Al Sunaidy, minister of commerce and industry, deputy chairman of the Supreme Council for Planning, and some senior officials from the government and private sectors, people would be awarded for their achievements and innovations in eGovernment. The guest of honour will be Jimmy Wales, the founder of Wikipedia.
Omar Salim Al Shanfari, deputy CEO for operations at ITA, stated, "ITA is honoured to organise the Sultan Qaboos Award for Excellence in eGovernment in its fourth edition and we are pleased to award the dedicated efforts that have been made by the participating organisations in the provision of eServices in the Sultanate. The Award organising committee is committed to the highest international standards in the evaluation of the participating projects in order to accelerate the implementation of the eTransformation plan."
Jimmy Wales will give a onehour presentation entitled "Harnessing the Power of Social Media and Wiki Future" to students in the Sultanate and IT specialists and enthusiasts, in Lecture Theatre 1 at SQU, at 11am.
