The Jury evaluation sessions for the 2014 edition of the Sultan Qaboos Award for Excellence in eGovernment concluded in Muscat with a meeting between Dr Ahmed Mohammed Al Futaisi, chairman of the board of the Information Technology Authority (ITA) and board members, along with members of the award jury panel.

The jury members evaluated and discussed the 70 projects submitted by 39 public and private sector institutions vying to win an award which will be distributed at the official ceremony in December 2014.

The Sultan Qaboos Award for Excellence in eGovernment aspires to make qualitative transformation in the field of eServices by honouring digital projects that deliver exceptional innovation and achievements in the ICT field. The award also aims to honour excellent performance, apply international standards in evaluating the degree of development in eServices, and support Oman's digital strategy.

The jury panel has identified the projects' strength and set certain recommendations for the way forward for eGovernment in the Sultanate. In collaboration with government entities and the private sector, the ITA will definitely implement the recommendations offered by the jury to help in achieving an e.oman strategy.

Chris Vein, the jury chairman, talked about the benefits that participating for this award will bring to him, saying, "I have heard about Oman for a long time and the leadership that Oman has put in the region. I wanted to participate in this jury process not only to see what the process is like but also to get an in-depth knowledge of the projects submitted. I am excited to learn about these projects to tell others and build what I see here in my presentations, to show that when people have vision they really work towards accomplishing it and share the results with others."

Commenting on the projects submitted and eGovernment in the Sultanate, Vein said, "The projects here are illustrative of the challenges that any government or private sector entities might face when trying to make a change.

When we are talking about eGovernment, we are talking about changing the nature of government, trying to make it more efficient and effective.

"It was a fabulous evaluation process and I hope all will be happy with the awards as we choose the winners of the 2014 Sultan Qaboos Award for Excellence in eGovernment."
