As many as 70 projects from government and private sector firms and SMEs will compete in the fourth edition of the Sultan Qaboos Award for Excellence in eGovernment.

They include 58 projects from 27 government firms and seven from an equal number of private sector firms. Another five projects from an equal number of SMEs will compete for the first time in this competition.

“The award committee has started assessing the projects using different means including Site Visit Review by professional assessors who will communicate their findings to the jury to assist in their evaluation. Public voting on certain projects will take place from October 27 to 29 on www.ita.gov.om/hmaward and five winners will receive RO100 each,” Fatma al Riyamia, director of Operational Excellence, Information Technology Authority, was quoted in a release as saying.

She said that the assessment includes eMystery shopping which is an Internet-based service aimed to assess applications from different aspects, as well as eHealth checks to analyse and assess websites and online services through regular audits. “These methods serve as pre-evaluation that will help 13-member jury in their task,” she said.

Talking about the evaluation process, Fatma said, “The process will start on November 1 and will continue till November 5. The jury comprises 11 international panelists and two Omanis. Winners will be announced at a ceremony in December.”
