The second Internat-ional e-Commerce conference under the theme ‘Electronic Authentication towards Digital World’ concluded on Monday. The conference was organised by Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhofar Governorate branch, in collaboration with Middle East Centre for Social Consultancies and Studies in strategic partnership with Information Technology Authority and scientific cooperation by Sultan Qaboos University.

Two working sessions were held on the final day on ‘regional experiences in the field of e-authentication’ and ‘economy and technology in e-authentication’.

The ‘Electronic Authentication towards Digital World’ conference came out with a number of recommendations. Among the array of suggestions made at the forum, the most important was the establishment of a specialised judiciary to settle e-commerce disputes more efficiently and quickly.

The participants at the conference stressed upon the need to set up a centre for e-arbitration under the sponsorship of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The participants highlighted the need to set up e-market sponsored by the government to encourage youths to be entrepreneurs through e-commerce.

The conference on e-Commerce highlighted the importance of raising awareness on the need of e-authentication. It also sought support for setting up the national centre for e-authentication.

The conference recommended amending the Omani e-Transactions Law and setting up a GCC entity that issues instructions related to e-transactions.

The international conference on urged public and private organisations to expedite the e-authentication procedures with relation to the services they are providing to keep pace with conversion to the e-government.
