The registration stage for the Sultan Qaboos Award for Excellence in eGovernment would now start in August. According to the Information Technology Authority, the decision by the award committee to extend the date is to provide a better opportunity for private sector organisations to be part of the competition.

The government sector entities will compete in nine categories, while big private organisations will compete in two categories – best public mobile e-service and best public e-service.

The SMEs will be part of the competition for the first time in two categories – best e-solution and public mobile e-service.

Big orgnisations in the private sector can participate with only one project under an individual category and the project maturity should be more than six months.

The previous year winning projects were not eligible to enter the next competition and have been limited to e-services in health, education, electricity, finance, water, public transportation, telecommunication and environment.

All Information and Communication Technology (ICT)-related SMEs registered with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and classified under the ICT category can participate.

The eligibility criteria are that the SME must be operating in the country for a year, project maturity should be more than six months, every SME can participate with only one project under each category and the e-services registered should have been developed and provided by any private or public sector organisation or to any NGO.
