36 government institutions made their way to Comex 2014 with several new technologies, Mobile apps and eServices, to boost the eGovernment Transformation Plan ahead. The government pavilion is receiving a lot of presence and interaction from the visitors. Several government institutions have signed agreements with either the Information Technology Authority (ITA) or some international institutions participating in COMEX 2014. It's an excellent opportunity for companies and individuals to communicate directly with the representatives of those institutions to learn about the latest ICT related ventures, projects and initiatives.

Agreement with ROP

To support the eGovernment Transformation plan, today the ITA signed an agreement with Royal Oman Police (ROP) to provide a data link between RoP and ITA. Major General Sulaiman bin Mohammed Al Harthy, Assistant Inspector General of Police and Customs for Administrative and Financial Affairs and Dr. Salim Sultan Al Ruzaiqi, CEO of ITA have signed the agreement at COMEX exhibition, at the Oman International Exhibition Centre. The ROP also launched new online services today at e.oman stage at the exhibition. The services allow the citizens to get a Police Clearance Certificate online.

Activities

COMEX 2014 visitors can get the latest tech-savvy products and solutions in IT at the Business pavilion where some telecommunications companies such as Nawras, and Omantel, are present. To aid in the eTransformation of people's homes and personal lifestyles, COMEX Shopper pavilion offers the latest gadgets to the consumers. Omani innovations in IT are also present at COMEX 2014 with some interesting projects for school students as well as some SMEs showing their talents in IT solutions.

The ITA initiatives take a great part in COMEX every year to enhance the public awareness of their services. Some of the participating initiatives this year are: HM Award for Excellence in eGovernment, Free & Open Source Software Initiative, Sas Programme for Entrepreneurship, Oman National CERT, Omanuna, PKI, National Data Center, and Information Security Division. The ITA initiatives' pavilion witnessed a good interaction from the visitors, in addition to visitors crowd and attention on the eGames in the e.oman pavilion.

Visitors Feedback

COMEX 2014 visitors gave their views and comments about the eServices and the activities at the Expo. Thalal Al Saidi expressed his opinion about the government eServices, saying: "I think the most effective eServices are those of the Ministry of Higher Education and Ministry of Education. They help us to track the student score and attention, as well as the registration in the Higher Admission Center." Al Saidi added "The government should ensure a sufficient and excellent internet connection in order to fully transfer to eGovernment."

With regard to the new services launched recently by some government institutions, Mr. Muttasir from India said: "The newly launched government Mobile applications are perfect and they'll help a lot to process some transactions. There is always a room for improvement in the eGovernment field in Oman even if it is going slowly. Internet network is the reason behind people unacceptance of the digital shift in the Sultanate and the telecommunications companies should work out a solution for this issue."
