Speaking about e-Government in the GCC, Ali Al Kamali, Managing Director, Datamatix said 'Initial e-Government initiatives in the GCC have focused mostly on providing access to information and basic services. Although the full positive effects of e-Government remain largely unrealized at this time, the rapid growth in interest and resources dedicated to e-Government initiatives will contribute to better results.' Speaking about the report, he said 'The report being published by Datamatix in association with the e-Government Institute reviews GCC e-Government achievements and the progress made in on-going implementations. It will provide a comprehensive overview of the challenges facing the successful completion of many e-Government projects in the region and also include in-depth analysis and case studies on the status of e-Government maturity in the 6 GCC nations.'
The report will be presented during the 10th Middle East ICT Excellence Awards which will honor the best regional achievements in e-Government and related activities. Awards will be presented to the Best Middle East e-Government Portal, Best ICT Partner for building Regional e-Government Sites, Best Individual Contribution to Middle East e-Government Development, Best Contribution to Middle East e-Business Development and Best Middle East Organization supporting ICT Skills Development.
The awards will be held on the evening of the final day of the upcoming 11th GCC e-Government Forum. During the 5-day event beginning on 21 May, 2005, e-Government experts from both private and public sector organizations will speak on the issues, challenges and opportunities facing e-Government around the world and in the GCC in particular.
