ST Engineering is integrating its barrier-free smart car park system with the Salik traffic toll system at one of the largest shopping malls in the world.
Salik Company (PJSC), which designs, constructs, operates, and maintains the toll gates in Dubai, has announced it is extending its use of ST Engineering Urban Solutions’ TransCore tolling technology used in the traffic toll system to a smart car park system.
The project involves integrating Urban Solutions’ barrier-free smart car park system with the Salik traffic toll system to enable automatic and ticketless parking fee collection at the city’s mall, which has more than 13,000 parking lots.
Parking management system
This contract is awarded by Salik, a long-standing TransCore customer which is responsible for the parking management system at Dubai Mall, one of one of the largest malls in the world.
Using automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology, motorists who park at Dubai Mall will have their vehicle licence plate numbers automatically captured and identified for parking fee processing.
With the majority of motorists in Dubai already having a Salik account, parking fees will automatically be deducted from their prepaid account, enabling a seamless and ticketless parking experience at Dubai Mall, the company reports. The barrier-free system will also provide motorists a smooth entry and exit at the car park, avoiding traffic congestion issues.
“This project demonstrates our Urban Solutions team’s synergistic capabilities by combining TransCore’s expertise in the Salik traffic toll system with the barrier-free smart car park technology developed by Urban Solutions in Singapore,” said Chew Men Leong, president of Urban Solutions at ST Engineering.
He continued: “We were able to tap on the capabilities in the US, Dubai, and Singapore to offer a superior solution with time and cost benefits. We look forward to extending this enhanced account-based payment solution to other customers in the Middle East.”
The centralised management and control of car park operations on the smart car park platform will also enable Salik to optimise manpower deployment, while an asset management module for preventive maintenance will prevent costly downtime.
Traffic violation processing
Serving as a technology partner to Salik since 2006, TransCore, a US provider of transportation solutions, designed, built and currently maintains Open Road tolling system and back office system that includes customer service operations, revenue collection and traffic violation processing.
