The Department of Health and Medical Services (DOHMS) has announced the launch of an online eDirham facility through its new portal www.dohms.gov.ae, making it the first government department to offer this service over the Internet, as part of an initiative aimed at facilitating procedures of the ePay service. Private medical institutions that have frequent dealings with DOHMS will greatly benefit from this service as they can easily pay for DOHMS services through the Internet, by using the eDirham facility, which can be conveniently refilled at any time.

Sina Khoory, Acting Finance Director, DOHMS, stated, "The introduction of the facility of paying for DOHMS services using eDirham through the Internet is a value-addition to the list of ePay services offered through our new, revamped portal. Our success in serving society relies on our capability in conducting a positive and efficient interaction with our customers. We have launched a wide range of ePay services that have received remarkable response from individuals and businesses alike. Currently 8% of health card renewal is done online and 92% is done by conventional channels. With the introduction of the eDirham facility over the internet, we expect to boost the percentage of citizens using our online services".

The eDirham is a payment tool devised by the Ministry of Finance & Industry to facilitate collection of revenues for government services. The Dubai eGovernment initiative has made this service available to all government departments through the ePay project. The ePay service is considered a developed and safe payment medium that will make it easy to collect fees of government services.

DOHMS users can now avail of services like renewal of health card or medical licenses for institutions by paying through credit card or eDirham, or by opening a credit facility account with DOHMS.

Khoory added, "eServices offered to DOHMS users is integrated and comprehensive, encouraging people to opt for it over conventional services. We are pleased to successfully develop innovative solutions to collect fees for DOHMS' electronic services, after years of offering services through conventional channels. This is a significant improvement in the way fees are paid. We believe that this is just the first step, that will be followed by others, to strengthen Dubai's conversion to an IT based society, enabling citizens to utilize IT solutions in all walks of life."
