Building on the successful introduction of the E-Stamp service at both the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Finance and Industry (MOFI) is to introduce E-Stamp services to the Department of Naturalization and Residency at the Ministry of Interior through the use of 'Smart Forms' throughout its operations. Mr. Majed Ali Omran, Deputy Director at the Ministry of Finance and Industry's Revenues Department said that, "The introduction of the E-Stamp through the Smart From is part of the E-Dirham project which was introduced in January 2001. This is an unprecedented step forwards towards the full implementation of the Quality Project which uses modern technology to redefine and develop government services to make it more efficient and simplify the associated procedures for the benefit of the clients."

The initiative is part of a combined effort between the MOFI and the Ministry of Interior and complements MOFI's ongoing commitment towards enhancing and improving federal fees collection.

Mr. Omran explained that the new e-stamp service and Smart Forms can be viewed as "a progression of the E-Dirham system which is a technologically advanced payment system that is electronically encrypted for added safety. It saves time and replaces cash payments."

He said that the E-Dirham is a significant strategic tool that will be used in transactions pertaining to e-government applications and noted that this new service is indicative of the ministry's ongoing efforts to improve its systems and be a role model for the region.

Mr. Omran added that the new e-stamp system through 'smart forms' complements other services under the E-Dirham system such as Internet access for ministries' clients, electronic link-up and online payment of fees.
