During his visit, Kerby also toured the portals of some key ministries: Ministry of Social Affairs, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Education, and Emirates Identity Authority.
Salem Khamis Al Shair Al Suwaidi, Director General, Emirates eGovernment welcomed Kerby's visit and praised the efforts of the UNDESA in assisting countries to develop and implement their eGovernment strategies.
Al Suwaidi discussed with Kerby the steps that the Emirates eGovernment team has taken to improve the official portal as per the best global standards. He said, "It is indeed remarkable to achieve the level of improvement that we have in such a short time. We will continue to strive to achieve a strong and sustainable eGovernment in an endeavour to create information society and knowledge-based economy under the able guidance of our visionary leaders." Kerby saluted the UAE Government on its efforts and the progress on the federal eGovernment portal with regards to implementing the introductory plan drafted during his last meeting with the UAE eGovernment officials in December last year. He also lauded the ministries in displaying their understanding of the United Nations' (UN) expectations concerning web standards that would lead to higher levels of online service delivery and integrating its services with those of the UAE Federal Government.
He focused on improving the position of eServices on the UAE federal portals, promoting the practices of Open Data on the federal websites and adopting social media tools to increase interaction between the various UAE Government ministries, authorities and the public. He also agreed with the UAE eGovernment management on future landmarks to be achieved in the field of eGovernment.
His visit is a continuation of the long-term partnership between the Emirates eGovernment and DPADM/UNDESA to offer support and advice in implementing the various eGovernment strategies.
The UAE Government's aim through the revamped portal is to increase the consumer satisfaction in eServices and increase eParticipation between the Government and public. The UAE Government is also bracing up itself for evaluation for eGovernment Readiness Index to be conducted by the UN this May. The eGovernment Readiness Index, conducted every two years is an indicator of the level of preparedness of a country's government to deliver services and information online and the overall value it delivers to the public.
