The Ministry of Health will soon launch a new e-service for online applications for renewal of licences by doctors, technicians, private medical institutions, and also applications for health-related advertisements. Dr. Ibrahim Al Kadi, Director of the Private Medicine Department, said the ministry will start receiving applications from private medical establishments and professionals via its website by next month.

Dr. Al Kadi said: "As we shift to e-government and the online submission of applications, the new e-service will be launched soon to offer quick, integrated quality services and implement the newly-designed 'e-application' concept, in handling and processing various applications."

Dr. Al Kadi has issued a circular to all private medical establishments at medical zones and heads of private medical licensing sections nationwide.

The programme will first be implemented at major private hospitals in Abu Dhabi then gradually expanded to other emirates, said Dr. Al Kadi. He confirmed that the UAE has been making strides in the area, saying: "This has put our e-services on par with some top governments worldwide."

The number of medical institutions and their employees is on the rise.

According to recent statistics issued by the department, there are 1,102 private medical establishments in the country. Of these, 389 are in Abu Dhabi, 64 in Ajman, 160 in Al Ain, 19 in Fujairah, 71 in Ras Al Khaimah, 378 in Sharjah, 12 in Umm Al Quwain and nine in the western region.

A total of 1,461 physicians work in the private medical sector, 729 of them in Abu Dhabi, 178 in Al Ain, 421 in Sharjah, 49 in Ras Al Khaimah, 39 in Ajman, 24 in Fujairah, seven in Umm Al Quwain and 14 in the western region.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health and Medical Services (Dohms) will begin issuing health cards and fitness certificates to all companies and residents in the Jebel Ali area, at the Jebel Ali Clinic from Saturday.

The main aim behind this step is to save time for the Jebel Ali residents, who would have had to travel to Dubai for the cards.

Khalid Ahmed Al Sheikh, Assistant to the Director General for Financial Affairs said that the Jebel Ali Clinic has been provided with latest equipment for the blood test and X-ray machines. He said Dohms aims to reduce the processing time.
