Transforming Government since 2001
Dubai eGovernment has today signed an agreement with Zayed University to collaborate in providing gainful career development opportunities for university students in the field of information technology. The newly sealed partnership is part of Dubai eGovernment's programme to help consolidate the UAE's position as the top performer among Middle East countries in the information and communication technology (ICT) readiness index.

In the Global Information Technology Report (GITR), a joint study conducted by the World Economic Forum and INSEAD, the UAE has figured within the top 30 countries in the ICT index, ahead of its neighbours in the region. Dubai eGovernment's partnership with Zayed University and various educational institutions seeks to further drive the UAE's ICT readiness ratings by enhancing the IT competency of students through various internship programs, research projects and other related activities that develop IT skills and proficiency.

"Information technology is instrumental in shaping our country's future, thus we consider it crucially important to strengthen the IT competency of the younger generation, particularly students taking up various IT courses. It is Dubai eGovernment's inherent responsibility to contribute meaningfully to the development of the students by providing adequate opportunity to harness their skills and develop their potential through relevant internship programs. Our partnership with Zayed University serves as an important step towards realising this vision as we look forward to jointly create innovative ways to promote the welfare of the students," said Salem Al Shair, eServices Director, Dubai eGovernment.

Dr Sulaiman Al Jassem, Vice President, Zayed University said: "This collaboration with Dubai eGovernment opens exciting opportunities for the students to improve their IT proficiency through practical work experience within a professional and dynamic IT environment. Dubai eGovernment has been very proactive in cultivating the IT potential of the various sectors of our society, and we are pleased that they have established specific programs that cater to the needs and requirements of the students as well."

Under the agreement, Dubai eGovernment will offer internship programmes for students of Zayed University Outreach. Both parties will likewise collaborate in determining projects to be conducted by IT students under the internship programme. Dubai eGovernment and Zayed University said they will also determine areas for innovation and joint project research and development, which will eventually be implemented commercially.
