The Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) is implementing the Dubai Government initiative of e-government in all areas possible.

Announcing this at the fifth annul suppliers conference of DCA held in Dubai yesterday, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, president of Dubai Civil Aviation and chairman of Emirates Group, said it will be vital for the suppliers to be updated about e-commerce and appreciate the concept since they represent the first ring in the quality chain. The conference endorsed the theme of 'Together Towards e-Commerce' and declared that the DCA strategy is to apply maximum e-commerce solutions in its supply management.

The conference, organised by the DCA, Dubai Duty Free and DCA's Strategy and Management Excellence Division, was attended by all leading suppliers of DCA.

DCA's strategic plan to develop a consistent relationship with its suppliers include direct meetings between suppliers and DCA officials, satisfaction surveys and use of e-commerce as far as possible in all types of supply related transactions.

"We appreciate the importance of our suppliers and our strategic plan is aimed towards developing a useful relationship for both DCA and our suppliers. Our strategy reflects our efforts in finding continuous means of improving our relationship with suppliers," added Sheikh Ahmed.

Recognising the quality of service to its suppliers, DCA presented awards to its distinguished suppliers and partners.

Reminding the DCA staff and its partners of the numerous challenges Dubai faces today, Sheikh Ahmed added: "While we have managed to carve out a special place in the world of travel, tourism and business, we now need to ensure that we stay ahead; and the only way to do so is by focusing on quality and increasing our standards."

The chief guest speaker at the Forum, Col. Saeed bin Bleilah, director general, Department of Naturalisation and Residency, Dubai, highlighted the positive response the e-Gate project has earned for Dubai International Airport.

"e-Gate has come as a blessing to regular travellers through Dubai International Airport, going by the extremely positive feedback we have received from registered users. These responses have prompted us to fine-tune the system and add enhancements to the fingerprint scan in order to make e-Gate accessible to all segments of the society," he added.

Other key speakers at the Forum included M.M.K. Nair, director, finance, DCA; Hilmi Rifai, general manager, AiportXchange, Middle East; Dr Saeed M. Al Barwani, e-Business manager, Al Futtaim Group; and Ramesh Cidambi, senior manager, systems and IT, Dubai Duty Free.
