He added that the ID card provides protection to all UAE residents by securing the confidentiality of their information and authenticating their identity and facilitating their government and non-government transactions.
These remarks were made in a speech delivered by Darweesh Al Zaraouni during the introduction ceremony of the EIDA strategy to its staff which was organised by the EIDA at Intercontinental Hotel, Abu Dhabi with the participation of all EIDA staff from various Emirates and the presence of EIDA partners' representatives.
On the occasion, Zaraouni, commented: "The pillars and basis of EIDA's new strategy reflect the concept of the national message on which the Authority was incorporated under the Federal Decree No 2 of 2004. It includes practical and deliberate plans inspired from the established principles instilled inside us by the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and guided by the comprehensive developmental vision of our beloved leader, HH Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, who is providing us with all the necessary care and support to render our ambitious national project a success."
He said: "We further pride ourselves for the trust and attention given to us by the UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum."
On EIDA's new three year strategy (2007 - 2010), Zaraouni said: "Our new strategic plans and targets give EIDA an active and positive role in the growth and development process within the UAE, to reach the highest levels of community services, which will be achieved through the well advised planning, the integrated teamwork and the unlimited support of our promising project from our wise leadership."
He added: "Today we are honoured with the direct follow up and guidance by General Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and Chairman of the Authority, as well as the care and support of Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Interior and Deputy Chairman of the Authority."
Zaraouni explained that the strategy is a practical tool to achieve the Authority's goals and objectives within clear performance indicators that were carefully specified and satisfied on the basis of an in-depth and comprehensive evaluation of all the Authority's activities through objective diagnosis of the Authority's strenghts and weekness.
He said the new programme includes 17 strategic objectives, 26 executive policies and 34 strategic projects where the pilot stage of many of the agreed plans (concerning IT systems, telecommunication networks, registration centres and so on) has already been started in preparation of the official launch of the strategy in Autumn this year.
The coming month will witness the opening of more registration centres in addition to the existing seven centres operating throughout the UAE which, as per the latest survey conducted in May 2007, have registered more than 200,000 individuals.
Al Zaraouni stressed that the new strategy is a quantum leap in the work of the Emirates Identity Authority, as it will enter starting from the next fall, a new stage of extensive and tireless work. EIDA will also increase the support for its internal structure by developing the staff performance based on the values included in the Authority's new strategy, of mutual trust, sense of belonging, teamwork, ongoing efforts to innovation, in order to achieve success, excellence and customer satisfaction which is the most important work value for the Authority and its staff.
He said the audacious goal of EIDA is "to establish an accurate and secured population register for five million of UAE's citizens and residents by the end of year 2010."
