In addition, the call centre service will provide information on other sectors of the hospitality industry including hotels, travel agencies, shopping and entertainment centres.
The number will also provide details on investment in the tourism sector, said the ministry release.
The hotline will also accept complaints on tourism, said Nada Ahmed Yaseen, Assistant Undersecretary for Tourism. The year ahead is expected to be a continuation of a trend to promote Bahrain's tourism offerings. Manama, the capital of Bahrain, expects to be named the Arab capital of culture for this year and the Capital of Tourism for 2013.
“With the tourism business bouncing back and increaseing,” said the Assistant Undersecretary, “we have been looking for the optimum ways of promoting Bahrain's attractions and entertainment opportunities to the public.”
The call centre, she added, is a one-stop-shop offering comprehensive and up-to-date information in both Arabic and English on all aspects of tourism in the country.
According to a release from the Ministry of Culture, Tourism Sector, plans ahead point to a toll-free number and an international number.
Joe Tawfik, Chief Executive Officer of Silah Gulf, addressing the media at the launch of the call centre, said the hotline, soft launched on November 15, 2011 is staffed by eight Bahraini customer service representatives who will man the centre for all of 24 hours.
In addition to the information provided by Nada Yasseen, Tawfik said that the future services will include registration of attraction locations and events, process booking and reservations for hotels, apartments over events, recommendations of itineraries for the tourist and extending the support channels to SMS, chat and online payment.
The inauguration was presided by the Minister for Culture Shaikha Mai bint Ebrahim Al Khalifa. The assistant undersecretary told the Bahrain News Agency, on the sidelines of the launch that there were plans to enhance the tourism infrastructure including the establishment of cycling lanes for the benefit of tourists who choose to cycle around the Kingdom.
