The aim is to reduce the digital gap, build an information society and combat computer illiteracy among individuals, said officials.
The Qudrat e-Training programme is being introduced by the eGovernment Authority to educate 15,015 Bahrainis from different age groups in computer skills over the next two years.
Around 2,015 of these are government employees and the remaining 13,000 are Bahraini nationals who will attend 24 hours of accredited training, two hours a day over a 12-day period.
Training will include basics in Windows, Microsoft Office, Internet applications and surfing as well as how to use the eGovernment portal to encourage citizens to complete their governmental services online.
The sessions will be taught in Arabic with some terminology in English, said officials.
Memoranda of understanding have been signed with the Bahrain Institute for Entrepreneurship and Technology and Ascentech Telecom Institute to act as partners in this project, they added.
