Bahrain's e-government strategies came under the spotlight at a workshop at United Nations headquarters.

A Bahraini strong delegation co-ordinated the two-day event with the UN officials in charge of the index scheme.

Participants represented the ministries of the interior, education, social development, health, finance and labour.

Bahrain e-government authority head Mohammed Ali Al Qaed outlined the kingdom's efforts to gain an edge in this domain.

He cited the establishment of the high ICT and telecommunications committee as a key component of e-government strategies.

Chaired by Deputy Premier Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, the panel is in charge of launching projects and initiatives.

Bahrain is ranked second in the Arab world and 42nd worldwide in e-government readiness.

A copy of Bahrain's e-strategy will be available on the UN website, for other countries to study and emulate.

The move is part of global efforts to disseminate e-government strategies worldwide.
