A new sanitary connections e-service that allows citizens and consultants to submit online applications has been launched by the Works Ministry.

The e-government portal www.e.gov.bh will also allow users to access the ministry's responses.

It is the second e-government initiative by the ministry aimed at providing comprehensive, accurate and timely information and services, said officials.

The existing service counter for sanitary connections will remain in place.

However, from January 1, sanitary applications from consultants will only be accepted through the online e-service.

The instructions for submitting and following up on sanitary connection applications are available on the website.

The ministry's website www.mwh.gov.bh also has a link to the Sanitary Connections e-Service.

Other ministry online services will be released in the future through the e-government portal as well as through the ministry's new website, said officials.

"The ministry is currently working on a five-year strategic information systems plan to deploy more public infrastructure e-services on the e-government portal," said a spokesman.

"It has developed a world-class Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure which is e-ready, fully secure and based on latest standards."

The e-government strategy was launched in May last year to provide individuals and businesses an additional channel of access to various government services.

Ministry's formation technology director Hisham Sater said that it had developed a high skill base to ensure not only the timely manner of service delivery, but also a level of reliability and response previously unachievable.

E-government Agency marketing and awareness director Isa Abdulrahman said the co-operation of ministries and government bodies will gradually transform the country into an e-government leader "committed to using innovative technologies to provide quality and value to citizens, residents, businesses and visitors".
