Bahrain's e-government services were highlighted yesterday at the Compu-Tech.

Ten ministries including, Interior Ministry, Industry and Commerce Ministry, Education Ministry, Electricity and Water Ministry, Municipalities and Agriculture Ministry, Health Ministry, Social Development Ministry, Central Informatics Organisation, Civil Service Bureau and others participated.

"We would like to introduce the e-government services for Bahrainis. It will provide them with the information about the new services we currently have and are expecting to launch in the future," the e-government stand's project co-ordinator Aalya A R Al Mahmood said.

The e-government is a sector of the government that seeks to automate and speed up administrative tasks as well as lower costs and increase efficiency.

Achievements so far include the Government Data Network, which is a government-wide secured intranet infrastructure connecting almost all government agencies and the e-government portal, a single website providing access to many government services.

"We also want to launch our e-magazine with up-to-date information on Bahrain government."

There are currently a new range of services available through the e-government including the ability to pay fines and electricity bills through the Internet, as well as apply for a CPR from outside of Bahrain.

"The introduction of the Smart Card will speed up the process of paying bills and fees," Ms Al Mahmood said.
