Bahrain has allocated BD22 million to develop its eGovernment services over the next three years, it was revealed yesterday.

The total number of services provided by eGovernment will increase from the current 28 to 167 by the end of 2009, said Deputy Prime Minister and chairman of the Supreme Committee for Information and Communication Technology Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa.

He unveiled the eGovernment Strategy for Bahrain and a new national portal accessible at www.e.gov.bh.

Following the event, at Bahrain International Exhibition Centre, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Shaikh Ahmed bin Ateyatalla Al Khalifa announced the launch of Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa Award for the best eGovernment site.

"The prize, which will be granted to three categories, the best government site, the best developed government site and the best government project, aims to encourage competition among ministries to develop their services," he told a Press conference.

"The government has earmarked BD22m for the implementation of Bahrain's eGovernment strategy over three years, while BD500,000 was paid to the executing company, PricewaterhouseCoopers."
