It will get underway at Seef Mall next week, according to CIO president Shaikh Ahmed bin Ateyatalla Al Khalifa.
"Our team will demonstrate to the public how the new ID card is produced," he told the GDN. "Sample photographs, fingerprints and signatures of card holders will be shown."
The campaign aims to clear up any doubts about the new ID card, which will be officially issued to the public from the new CIO headquarters in Isa Town soon.
"It will be done after the official opening of the new headquarters, which is expected to take place shortly," he said.
"The new integrated electronic Smart Card is for multi-purpose use by every individual in Bahrain." The Smart Card, the first of its kind in the region, will be a major part of Bahrain's e-government process, said Shaikh Ahmed.
The integrated card will comprise the passport, ID card, CPR card, driving licence, health file, education file and user's fingerprints.
Information can be updated on the card in compliance with highest standards of secrecy and security, while it can also be used to store money and make payments.
The card has been designed to adapt to all changes that occur in information or data throughout a person's life and will be issued to both children and adults.
All the data can be updated without having to issue a new card.
Only the owner of the card will be able to use it since information will not be available unless the user's fingerprint matches that in the card's memory.
This means that even if a person loses the card, no one else can use it. The card, which will replace the current CPR card and other ID cards, will be issued to both Bahrainis and expatriates.
