Microsoft Chief Bill Gates today announced a new partnership with Karnataka Government to promote a 'Bangalore one' online portal and other e-governance initiatives. Coinciding with his maiden visit to the IT Capital of the country, Mr.Gates also announced a new education initiative provide computer education to 1000 Schools. This is in addition to the programme already undertaken by the Karnataka Government to start Computer education in 1000 schools.

The two new initiatives were announced at a joint press conference addressed by Chief Minister S M Krishna and Mr Gates at the Infosys Technologies premises in the Electronic City.

Referring to the 'Bangalore One' Portal, Mr Krishna said Microsoft would assist in the design, development and deployment of the Portal to enable Karnataka take advantage of the latest e-government framework based on Net technologies.

Mr Gates was highly appreciative of the efforts made by the state Government in taking IT to the grassroots and lauded the zero piracy initiative of Karnataka. The also praised the state Government for giving importance to Intellectual Property Rights to propel the growth of Software and services area.

He said Karnataka had taken up a leadership role in eliminating piracy.

Under the smart school intiative of the Karnatak Government, Microsoft would provide software solutions, teacher training and help develop IT curriculum for an educational portal for building online communities the portal bring together school administration, teachers, students, academicians and parents. Microsoft would also be actively involved with providing training for teachers, course developers, content creaters and graphic designers.
