In a major push toward digital inclusion, Mira-Bhayandar is set to become a ‘Free Wi-Fi City’ early next year. The announcement was made during a review meeting held at the MBMC headquarters, attended by Minister Pratap Sarnaik, MBMC Commissioner Radhabinod Sharma, and senior civic officials.
Minister Sarnaik said the initiative aligns with the state’s vision of promoting technology-driven development.
“Mira-Bhayandar is among the fastest-growing cities in the country. Free public Wi-Fi will mark an important step toward transforming it into a smart, technology-driven urban centre,” he said.
MBMC Commissioner Radhabinod Sharma highlighted the civic significance of the project. He said, “This initiative will democratise access to information, education, and essential online services. Free Wi-Fi zones will especially benefit students, small businesses, and daily commuters.”
Sharma added that the digital infrastructure will be deployed in phases. “Our goal is to ensure seamless, secure, and high-speed connectivity for all residents. This will not only support digital literacy but also enhance transparency and efficiency in civic services,” he noted.
He further said that the project symbolises Mira-Bhayandar’s shift toward modern urban planning. “With natural assets like the creekfront and the national park already shaping the city’s identity, this digital upgrade adds a defining layer of modernity,” he said.
The rollout will mark the first major step in positioning Mira-Bhayandar as a fully integrated smart city.
