The Odisha government is committed to transforming Bhubaneswar into an inclusive, resilient, and technology-driven model city, said Development Commissioner Anu Garg.
Chairing the 30th Board Meeting of Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL), Garg reviewed the progress of key Smart City projects and approved several new measures to strengthen citizen-centric urban governance and core infrastructure.
The Board assessed ongoing technology and management-based initiatives such as the installation of 3,000 AI-enabled CCTV cameras, an adaptive traffic signal system, and a city-wide public address network aimed at enhancing safety, especially for women, improving mobility, and enabling real-time urban surveillance.
It was decided that the Smart City Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) will continue its operations until a permanent framework for future urban development is finalized.
Key infrastructure initiatives were also approved, including the upgradation of the Janpath corridor—from Master Canteen to Vani Vihar—with steel grills replacing bamboo fencing and the addition of modern urban design elements to improve aesthetics and citizen convenience.
The Board further resolved to promote solar energy systems, rainwater harvesting, and the development of dedicated public parks for children.
Emphasis was also laid on ensuring clean, accessible public toilets and proper maintenance of green spaces across the city.
The meeting, chaired by Development Commissioner–cum–Additional Chief Secretary Anu Garg, was attended by Additional Chief Secretary (GA & PG Department) Surendra Kumar, Principal Secretary (Housing & Urban Development) Usha Padhee, BSCL Managing Director Chanchal Rana, Commissioner of Police (Bhubaneswar–Cuttack) S. Devdatta Singh, and CRUT Managing Director Sanjay Kumar Bishwal.
The Board took note of the successful launch of ‘Saharsaathi’, a 24×7 toll-free call center (1929) operated by BSCL, inaugurated by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on August 31, 2025. The service now caters to citizens across all urban areas.
Appreciating BSCL’s innovation and digital initiatives, Garg urged continued efforts toward citizen-first, technology-driven urban governance.
