The Odisha government will introduce a town planning scheme for urban development, announced Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra on Sunday.
A dedicated department will be established to manage this extensive initiative, ensuring that it adheres to a specified timeline.
Additionally, a new office will be set up to streamline the planning process. The Minister emphasized that there will be no unplanned developments within city limits. The initial implementation of these urban plans will focus on cities such as Cuttack, Berhampur, and Rourkela.
This new town planning initiative by the state government aims to promote systematic urban growth throughout Odisha, extending beyond the capital city of Bhubaneswar, which is known for its effective planning. Consequently, there will be no unplanned projects in this smart city, according to the Minister.
As part of the project, additional town planning offices will be established, and resources will be increased to support the fair and efficient execution of urbanization across the state. The jurisdiction of the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has been expanded, and a similar extension will be implemented in Cuttack to ensure that all constructions are carried out in a planned manner. The Director of the Town Planning office will be established and strengthened to facilitate organized urbanization. Similar measures will be implemented in the undivided areas of Odisha, the Minister added.
