Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) was selected to receive a grant of Rs 5 crore under the City Investments to Innovate, Integrate, and Sustain 2.0 (CITIIS 2.0) programme. This grant is a part of central govt’s initiative to enhance sustainable urban development across the country.
The IPSCDL stated that this grant would be utilised for various initiatives under CITIIS 2.0 to address climate action through a structured, multi-component plan.
The first component involves establishing the state climate centre for cities (S-C3), which will serve as a centralised hub for climate-related strategies.
“The second component focuses on setting up state- and city-level climate data observatories to comprehensively monitor and analyse environmental data. The third component emphasises enabling data-driven planning and implementation to ensure informed decision-making for sustainable urban development,” the IPSCDL said.
It further stated that the fourth component is dedicated to capacity building for govt officials across various departments such as solid waste management, water and sanitation, the environment, urban forestry, mobility, and finance, equipping them with the skills and knowledge necessary for effective climate and urban management strategies.
The managing director of IPSCDL, Sanjit Rodrigues, said that this grant will accelerate the efforts to create a smarter, more sustainable Panaji. “Our goal is to integrate cutting-edge technologies that enhance both the quality of life and the environmental footprint of our city,”he added.
